PRESS RELEASE - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Aperture IT Services Announces Contest for a Free Security Health Check
The pro bono work will be awarded to one small business and one nonprofit in honor of National Cyber Security Awareness Month in October
September 21, 2015, Chaska, MN – Aperture IT Services, a locally-owned IT security consulting company, announced that it will be offering a pro bono Security Health Check to one small business and one nonprofit organization. The Security Health Check provides a 360º view of an organization’s security, including internal and external threats, to identify and fix security risks.
Smaller organizations are attractive to hackers because they tend to have weaker online security; this is often due to a lack of awareness around their security risk or minimal resources. According to the security company Symantec, cyberattacks on small and medium-sized businesses accounted for 60% of targeted attacks in 2014, an increase of 30% over the prior year.
Ken Boie, a cyber security expert and founder of Aperture IT Services, will work with the selected organizations to evaluate current processes, identify areas of risk and provide guidance and practical recommendations to develop an effective security program. The program is focused on finding low cost opportunities to reduce risk for an organization.
October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month and this work is aimed at bringing awareness of the importance of IT security for all size organizations. Small and medium-size organizations are often at risk because they do not always have the resources available to effectively protect their data in an ever changing security landscape. But there are many steps that any size company can take that are both effective and cost efficient—even for a smaller organization.
All small businesses and nonprofit organizations in the Twin Cities area are encouraged to apply between October 1 and 31, 2015, and can do so by filling out the form at www.areweatrisk.com.
Celebrated every October, National Cyber Security Awareness Month was created as a collaborative effort between government and industry to ensure everyone has the resources needed to stay safer and more secure online.
